Nature Nurturers is the Environment Club of Villa International High School. Our Mission is to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations. Our Vision ‘embracing nature, and inspiring others’ aims to make people aware of the current state of our environment and move forward our mission.

Our Responsibilities are to:
•Learn and understand the importance of the environment and how it works.
•Spread awareness among people
•Keep our surrounding environment clean and advise others to do the same.

Recent Events

Young Ocean Warriors Camp

This camp was organized by Nature Nurtures and The Marine Department of Villa College.

Aim
•To explore the underwater beauty of Maldives
•To spread awareness about the effects on the reef
•To reduce the human effects on the reef


A maximum of 40 students, 4 parents and 4 teachers  participated in this event. This was limited to prevent any safety issue and they (Marine Department of Villa College) can only accommodate 50 people at the HQ. All participants were required to fill out the Camp Application form and the Medical Form provided by the Marine Department. The students from Nature Nurturers who attend the meetings were given  high priority. All Applicants were:

• fit and healthy (no medical issues)
• able to swim
• able to follow instructions

Events     
 
•Presentation regarding Marine Preservation  to increase  awareness about the reefs, the Maldivian reefs situation and what we can do to prevent it
•Diving courses
•Reef Cleanup
•Awareness programs (lot of presentation containing awareness information about the importance of marine preservation

Ozone Week 2014

These are the competitions held to celebrate Ozone Day (16th of September 2014). The theme set by UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) for this year’s Ozone Day is “Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On”. The competitions are organized and carried out by Nature Nurturers
The aim of theses competitions are to spread awareness about the ozone layer’s current situation and what we can do to reduce the depletion.
The details of the competitions are as follows.

Inter-class Poster Drawing Competition
Aim: To promote unity and competition among the students/classes and allow them to express their creativity.
Each class  submitted a poster based on the theme “Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On” before 1400hrs on 25th September 2014.

Creative Recycling
Aim: To promote unity and competition among the students/classes and allow them to express their creativity.
Students submitted a useful craft made using recycled materials. This is an individual competition but the class with most contribution was awarded a prize.
The craft was sold and 50% of the prize was given to the contributor.

Exhibition

Aim: To provide an opportunity to exhibit the student’s work, create awareness about Ozone Day and to conclude the Ozone week
An exhibition was held to display and sell the poster, and models made by students.
Also a quiz was held during the exhibition.
